Defensive driving means seeing problems before they happen. Our private defensive driving lessons help you build the habits that keep you ahead of other drivers’ mistakes: scanning the road, keeping space around your car and staying focused.
They suit new drivers building good habits from the start and experienced drivers who want to sharpen them.

Your instructor works on the core defensive driving habits in real traffic: looking far ahead, checking mirrors and blind spots, keeping a safe following distance, managing space in heavy traffic, and staying calm when other drivers make mistakes.
You will also talk through common hazards in town and on rural roads, like left turns across traffic and wildlife at night.
Book a lesson and tell your instructor about the roads you drive most. The lesson uses real traffic to practise defensive habits, with feedback as you go.
You can book one lesson or several.
No. The BDE course is for new drivers working towards their licence. Defensive driving lessons are separate private lessons for drivers at any stage who want to sharpen their habits.
These private lessons do not come with a certificate, so ask your insurer what they recognise. New drivers can look at our MTO-approved BDE course, whose certificate most Ontario insurers recognise for a discount.
